Background

Vietnamese Family Partnership (VFP) is a registered charity. It is governed by a Board of Trustees operating in compliance with the Charity Commission guidance on good governance. The Board is made up of the Chair, Secretary and other Trustees.

VFP Mission 

To bring together the Vietnamese community and help them to thrive in wider British society. We achieve this through our services: the Vietnamese Language School and the Support and Advice Centre.

  • Role Description

    As a small and growing charity, the role of each trustee is a crucial one. We are currently looking for a Trustee to join our Board with experience in fundraising and income generation or charity sector, to develop an ambitious fundraising strategy and help us to further improve the effectiveness of our income generation so we can maximise the number of service users we can provide support to.

    Detailed responsibilities include:

    • Provide strategic input into key decision-making to help achieve the charity’s mission statement and work with the CEO to ensure that the charity  has a clear forward strategy and supporting plan that sets out the direction and priorities, in order to deliver organisational purpose

    • Assist the Board of Trustees to develop a comprehensive fundraising strategy

    • Share your knowledge and expertise to enhance our fundraising efforts and maximise the effectiveness of our activities

    • Ensuring that our fundraising activities are in line with organisational values and the Fundraising Code of Conduct

    • Supporting the Board and wider charity to achieve our fundraising goals

    Person Specification 

    • Knowledge of the fundraising landscape and the challenges facing small and medium-sized, regional charities in securing funds. 

    • Experience in fundraising and charitable income generation at strategic and operational levels, (e.g., instance trusts and foundations, major donors, corporate partnerships, regular donors and legacy giving) would be an added advantage

    • Good in stakeholder management and relationship building. 

    • Good communication, leadership skills and ability to work effectively as a member of the team

    • Commitment to the aims and values of VFP

    • An understanding of the needs of the Vietnamese community in London

    • Understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship

    • Willingness to serve for an initial period of three years

    • Understanding that VFP is a young charity with big ambitions but limited resources

    • Nolan's seven principles of public life: selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty and leadership

    • Knowledge of the Charity SORP (Statement of Recommended Practice)

    Time Commitment

    • Term: 3 Years

    • Meetings: Every 8 weeks

    • One full day Strategy session annually 

    • Papers: Up to one hour before each board meeting to prepare board papers (up to 2 hours in the first few months for initial set up)

  • Role Description

    As a small and growing charity, the role of Secretary is a crucial one. We are currently looking for a Secretary to join our Board of Trustees who oversees the charity’s governance practices, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory obligations, and supporting effective board operations.

    Detailed responsibilities include:

    • Be responsible for the smooth and efficient running of trustee meetings and subcommittees, providing assistance  and support to the chair of the board of trustees

    • To liaise with the Chair and Chief Executive to plan, arrange and produce agendas for trustee meetings and  subsequent minutes

    • To ensure that all meetings comply with the requirements of the governing document, as relevant &  appropriate

    • Act as the custodian of the governing document, reviewing its appropriateness and monitoring that the  charity’s activities reflect the objectives set out in the governing document

    • Support the board in fulfilling their duties and responsibilities, organising trustee induction and ongoing  training

    • Be the external point of contact for stakeholders and interested parties

    • Act as a counter-signatory on charity cheques and any applications for funds

    • To be organised and methodical

    • Competent use of IT skills 

    • Good communication, leadership skills and ability to work effectively as a member of the team

    • An understanding of the needs of the Vietnamese community in London

    • Understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship

    • Willingness to serve for an initial period of three years

  • Role Description

    As a small and growing charity, the role of Treasurer is a crucial one. We are currently looking for a Treasurer to join our Board of Trustees with experience in finance/accounting to oversee our budgets, providing advice, scrutiny and support to VFP.

    Detailed responsibilities include:

    • Provide advice and oversight to the CEO and Chair on financial matters

    • Attendance at Board meetings (every 8 weeks, virtually including one in-person meeting per year)

    • Review Independent Examiner’s accounts for accuracy 

    • Prepare annual report to summarise key events and cash flow 

    • Additional commitment around Audit and reporting to the Board

    • Ad-hoc support to the CEO on financial issues 

    Person Specification 

    • Qualified accountant (or in the process of becoming qualified) with demonstrated commercial awareness and knowledge

    • Competent use of IT skills 

    • Good communication, leadership skills and ability to work effectively as a member of the team

    • Commitment to the aims and values of VFP

    • An understanding of the needs of the Vietnamese community in London

    • Proven ability to communicate and explain financial information to members of the Board and other stakeholders

    • Analytical and evaluation skills, demonstrating good judgement 

    • Understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship

    • Willingness to serve for an initial period of three years

    • Understanding that VFP is a young charity with big ambitions but limited resources

    • Nolan's seven principles of public life: selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty and leadership

    • Knowledge of the Charity SORP (Statement of Recommended Practice)
