About On Your Side
On Your Side is a confidential and 24/7 service available in various ESEA languages, which ESEA communities targeted with racism and/or any form of hate can access. Both ESEA people and people of mixed heritage as well as their supporters can use the service free of charge. On Your Side offers casework support by trained and culturally competent advocates. Advocates can help service users understand their rights, communicate with the police and other authorities, and access specialist support.
Coordinated by the charity Protection Approaches, On Your Side has been developed and is run by a consortium of 15 independent charity and non-profit organisations including 13 East and Southeast Asian organisations with decades of expertise in hate crime reporting, hate crime prevention, and supporting East and Southeast Asian communities.
Our Role As VFP
As Vietnamese Family Partnership, we are one of the seven partner organisations that provide casework advocacy services for On Your Side, our partner organisation. As a host organization for On Your Side's Casework Advocates, we will be delivering Casework Advocacy support to clients. If clients would like ongoing support from us, their data may be passed to us by On Your Side, but only with their full and informed consent.
With our expertise in advocacy, mental health first aid, trauma-informed practice, safeguarding, cultural competency, and hate crime awareness, we offer ongoing support to those seeking support in local East and Southeast Asian community groups for as long as they need. We can help them find appropriate support services, such as legal aid or mental health aid, and will stand by their side if their case is being handled by the police or local authority.
If you encounter racism or hate directed at you or somebody else who is, or is assumed to be, East and Southeast Asian, we’re here to listen, offer support, and, if you want us to, tell others what has happened. No matter how small you think it is, On Your Side is here because whatever has happened, you deserve to be listened to and taken seriously.
Whether you want to find local counseling services or are worried about what would happen if you decided to report to the police, or you just want to talk to somebody who is on your side, our trained Helpline Operators and Support Workers are here for you.

What does On Your Side include?
-
Helpline
Our Helpline Operators are available 24/7 on the UK-wide freephone helpline. If they don’t speak the language needed by the caller, they’ll find a trusted interpreter. All Operators have received comprehensive training on how to listen to and support callers, including trauma-informed practice training from the Association of Psychological Therapies. This helps ensure we prevent further harm or re-traumatisation.
-
Website
An interactive website with resources and information in Mandarin and Cantonese Chinese, Tagalog, and Tieng Viet. Also with the option to report hate in 8 different languages (including the above, and with the addition of Japanese, Korean, Thai, and Malay). There’s also an online webchat service.

Community Support
Ongoing community-based support by staff trained in advocacy, mental health first aid, trauma-informed practice, safeguarding, cultural competency, and hate crime awareness.
